Teacher Appreciation

It is coming up. That wonderful week of showing our teachers a little extra love for being wonderful and dedicated to teaching (and babysitting) our kids. This year is shaping up to be pretty awesome I think for our small school. We have some homemade gifts, a rock star pencil sharpener and 2 meals planned for them. I will post the finished projects as we get them completed.

I just ordered some prints of these cards I made to go with the gifts.

We are making them name plaques to put up by their doors. This card will go with those.

This one will go with a small loaf of bread  from Great Harvest Bread. 

We have several of these. They actually will be a book mark that goes inside a library pocket along with a small tin of Altoids.

My favorite is our new logo for our PAC. This can go on so many things!

Slacker

It happens to the best of us. We have great intentions. Even get into it with gusto. Then like most things, we slack. Then that slacking turns into avoidance. Avoidance turns into denial and before you know it, it is off the radar. So we all have a bit of slacker in us. My slacker has been showing a lot lately.
I can't say I don't enjoy being a slacker. There is nothing better than throwing off responsibilities, packing a bag and heading out of town for some vacation fun. Or spending the weekend with my nose in a book, instead of cleaning, editing, and keeping caught up on those wonderful tasks adults are so privileged to enjoy. PS - kids when an adult tells you not grow up to fast, it isn't because they think you are so adorably cute in your youth, it is because they are envious of your time to slack!!!!
So today will be a productive day. Hell I've blogged twice, cleaned and finished a project. It is 10 am!!! I have a full day of getting things done today. But don't worry, this over achieving stuff will be gone soon enough and I will be lounging on the couch, reading while my kids lose themselves in video game oblivion.

Fetal Bites

There is something seriously wrong with this cookie cutter.

With that being said here are some ideas of how a cookie made in the shape of a fetus could come in handy...

1. You want to announce you have a bun in the oven and hand out these delightfully tasteless cookie to share your joy.
2. You are teaching a class on child birthing and want to have a snack for those nervous moms and dads, and come on who wouldn't want to eat something shaped like the being that kicked you a dozen times in the last hour.
3. You are holding an open house at a fertility clinic and just to be snarky you put a plateful of these out with dollar signs for eyes.
4. You could get really creative and use some licorice to make umbilical cords.
5. You are hosting a baby shower and decide to include kids, so you have fetus cookies for them to decorate.
6. You can wish a newlywed couple bon voyage on their honeymoon with fetus shaped whoopee pies to remind them what comes next.
7. You could hand out these adorable treats to the protesters at planned parenthood or abortion clinics. I bet both sides of the coin would be pissed off.
8. You can harness your inner cannibal by polishing off an entire plate.
9. Take them into work and leave in the break room. See if they get eaten or are left at the end of the day. Hell they are free cookies, I'd eat them.
10. Send a plateful to the hospital after the birth of your child as a thank you to the nurses.

See a cookie cutter like this has its place. I may just have to order one for shock value alone. Perhaps at Christmastime this cookie cutter could come in handy for making tiny baby Jesus cookies. Let's leave those out for Santa.

Safe and Unsafe

You know right now I am supposed to be preparing for my class on Protecting God's Children on safe and unsafe touches. (We don't worry about Satan's children - those crazy kids can take most of us out if we even think about touching them safely or unsafely anyways.) So I decided to get some help for the good ol' Internet.
I Googled "protecting children safe and unsafe touches" hoping someone has posted some helpful posters, ideas or whatever to make this uncomfortable teaching experience, I don't know what is the word less UNCOMFORTABLE and more FUN. The first image I see that might help is a poster of an unsafe touch that gave me the willies.

Next I find this:

So I keep looking for images to help me teach today and stumble upon:

Damn, I knew I was doing something wrong when the baby kept slipping onto the floor mats.

Thank goodness someone invented that swaddling blanket because I don't think baby likes the pillowcase much.

I am pretty sure I saw a guy at bowling the other night wearing maternity pants, so he OBVIOUSLY DID NOT get the memo.

Because we all knew people in our lives that sucked and we totally stayed away from naming our kids after them because what if the name can be bad luck.

So by this point I have tears and realize these gems are not helping my lesson, but they are helping my mood. It turns out there is a book of these, and by far the best baby book ever made. I mean even a baby can get the gist of what is safe and unsafe with the friendly pictures and no nonsense (OK a lot of nonsense) format.
